11. Coaching for a Challenging Time with Gaylene Gould

Today, I’m speaking to Gaylene Gould, Creative Director of The Space to Come and coach. I am drawing on her coaching expertise  in this episode.

We have an incredible and dynamic museum sector here in the UK with so many extraordinary people developing exciting projects and innovative approaches to exhibitions and collections. But, in recent years, things have been increasingly difficult for a lot of us: wages are very low, more and more people are chasing fewer and fewer jobs, many of which are temporary contracts. On top of all that, the recent lockdown has hit us all hard and some of us may be facing job losses in the coming months.

So, the question I put to Gaylene was: How do we go about planning in an environment of almost total uncertainty on every possible level?

Starting with the point that change is the only thing that is constant, and with the idea of self compassion at its heart, Gaylene suggests ways in which we can harness this moment to reevaluate our key priorities, motivations and, importantly, find a way to sit still in a time of uncertainty.

One of the key messages that came out of this conversation, was: if we embody something, we will enact it in every moment of our day.
